Rwanda - Rutsiro District (PRUNE, BLACK TEA, RED GRAPE)
We are delighted to supply this delicious coffee from Rwanda, a country known as the Land of a Thousand Hills. Sadly, it’s also a country famed for the suffering experienced in its recent history, most notably caused by the civil war and resulting genocide that took the lives of up to a million people in 1994. With such grave loss and division experienced by one nation, it’s great to see people coming together to re-build their country. One of the industries that has received post war investment has been the country’s production of speciality coffee. The generous mountainous terrains and volcanic soil provide fertile conditions for growing the crop and provide economic opportunities for an increasing number of rural communities. Communities such as those that process their coffee at the country’s oldest washing station in Nkora, on the eastern banks of Lake Kivu. Here the very best red cherries are selected, washed and left on drying beds to produce a buttery, sweet and floral coffee packed with flavour and charm.
