Uganda - Rwenzori (Red Currant, Clove, Cacao Nibs)
The Rwenzoris stretch along the Western border of Uganda and are famously known as the ‘Mountains of the Moon’ as their snowy peaks reach 5000 masl. The area is home to the Bakonzo tribe, long standing coffee producers. The high altitude, fertile soils and plentiful rainfall provide perfect growing conditions for Arabica coffee. Coffee offers the Bakonzo farmers a stable income that allows them to support their families and develop their homes. The work on the farm is done by hand by a community of families. The groups work together to better process and market their coffee, an approach known as ‘share farming’.
